Salone del Mobile of Milan
The Salone del Mobile of Milan takes place this year from April 12th-17th and is an event that can’t miss by your agenda about things to do in Milan on April. Now in its 55th year, it is the world’s biggest furniture event, and sellers, designers and manufacturers alike will all be flocking to Milan to take part in exhibitions, presentations and other events.
This event makes up Italian Design Week along with the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition, EuroCucina (International Kitchen Furniture Exhibition), International Bathroom Exhibition and new designer showcase SaloneSatellite.
The history of the Salone del Mobile
The Salon del Mobile was first held in Milan in 1961. Organised by a small group of furniture manufacturers, the original aim was to promote the export of fine Italian furniture. Since then it has grown to become the main exhibition of the latest designs by furniture makers from around the world.
In 2015, the event was attended by 310,840 people, and there are plans to make it even bigger in 2016.

This year the Salone del Mobile will include over 1,300 exhibitions including designs of bedrooms, dining rooms and garden furniture. Almost 30 per cent of manufacturers at the fair have come from outside Italy. Many from other European countries, but some from as far away as Brazil, Japan and Australia.
It takes place at the Milano Fairground, Rho, which is easily accessible on the metro. The Salon is open from 9.30am-6.30pm and is open to the general public from April 16th-17th. Student groups are welcome throughout the event, and avoiding the first day is advisable due to long queues.

Trade operators can get tickets online from the end of February. Students and members of the general public must buy their tickets from the reception desks at the fairground. Pre-registration is essential and can be done online from the end of February.
