Expo 2015. Milan is getting prepared for a new big event and MilanoCard is ready to drive it!
We are talking about the Universal Exposition (Expo 2015) that will take place in Milan next year, from May 1st till October 31st 2015 around the theme of food and “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” is the mission of the event.
It will be focused on tradition, innovaction and creativity related to food and good diet, taking into great account the theme of sustainability.
Expo is not a fair but an exposition, a thematic park (like Disneyland) where every country show the best of its nations as regards the theme of the event and it is an open event, not only for sector’s specialist.
This Universal Exposition is expected to host over 20 million visitors and will be a moment of dialogue among the protagonists of the international community that will focus on the big challenge of nourishing the Earth and the mankind, but also a great opportunity to discover Italy and Milan.
Over 130 countries will attend this Expo, everyone with its thematic concept and they could decide to build their own exhibition space or choose their own space among one of the nine thematic cluster.
In 2008 Milan was declared by the BIE General Assembly in Paris host city of the Universal Exposition and won the competition against Smirne, Turkey, and since then the city’s everyday life has changed significantly because of works aimed at creating the Exhibition site in the north west of Milan with its pavilions that offer a great architectural experience and also other new areas in town.
In 1906 took place the International Exposition hosted by Milan and dedicated to transportation and now, after more than 100 years, Milan will host a new Universal Expo that will make visitors live a unique international experience thanks to all the events, performance, shows meetings and conferences that are in program.
Milan is the perfect location for hosting such an important event, it’s the most innovative city in Italy, looking to the future and it is a popular tourist destination with a great and wide tourist offer and well connected to the other Italian cities like Venice (1.30h from Milan), Florence (1.30h from Milan) and Rome (3h from Milan).
Where is the Expo site?
The Expo site, named also “bigh fish”, has been designed by 5 famous architects: Stefano Boeri, Jacques Herzog, Richard Burdett, Joan Busquets and William Mc Donough and will be located in the north west of the city with a surface area of 1,1 million square meters including part of the small cities of Pero and Rho and it is close to the famous Fair of Milan.
The Expo site will be divided into 5 thematic areas that will explain the main theme with a great cultural and scientific offer and will host conferences, shows, events and meetings.
